Can(or)not

I am a cat. Naturally i am curious. But sometimes the nature of my questions raises questions. Other than that, i’m just full of kemusykilan because there are just so many different practices within Islam itself. I, being the jahil one, am often frustrated. Sometimes i want answers fast but i don’t have any asatizah within my reach. So to MUIS’ FAQs page i seek help.

My latest question is: Is my ablution valid if my makeup is still intact?

I know it’s best to remove it before we angkat wudhu’ but i’m almost always with makeup on when i’m outside and i have to honestly admit that it’s troublesome to remove it (i typically need my makeup remover, or some wet wipes etc), and i want to perform prayers outside, so how how how?

MUIS says…

  <!– –>Is the solat of a person who wears make-up valid?<!– –>
The solat of a person who wears make-up is valid as long as it is removed when wudhu’ is performed to ensure that it reaches the skin and as long as the make-up does not contain any najis substance.

Huh? “The solat of a person who wears make-up is valid as long as it is removed when wudhu’ is performed…” So if it is removed, it is thus valid; if not, then it’s invalid? So in other words, i cannot wear makeup and solat. Is that what i’m supposed to understand? Or when performing wudhu’, i should remove them. And then i can apply it back after wudhu’ and i can still perform my prayers?

I need enlightenment. (:

Meantime, another question caught my eye. Scrolling down, i read the question and realised it’s very relevant to me and about 80% of all the Singaporean females.

Is the solat of a woman who has dyed hair valid?

Show me one local girl who hasn’t had her hair artificially coloured. (Fine, you’d probably be able to pick a few) I’m one of them. And i’ve always wanted to know, and be so very sure, if it’s really alright to 1. dye my hair and 2. to perform solat with dyed hair, so naturally (again) i am eager to know what MUIS has to say about this. This is the answer:

Really. This is just the kind of enlightenment i need. :p

I don’t feel right if i don’t get answers. So, you’re welcome to share what you know with me. Sometimes i love receiving comments.

  1. the 2nd question.. hmm. i’ve dyed my hair godknwshowmanytime and i’ve performed prayers with dyed hair. im a lil’ afraid to knw the ans. HAHA

but kak, i choose to believe that He’s fair. If i’m sincere enough in my prayers, im sure He could feel it. Insyallah. =)

  2. True kak. But it’s our responsibility to fine tune our akidah, so to speak.

  3. to the first question, i think i know the answer.

at the time of taking wudhu that you must be cleared of makeup. if you had taken wudhu, put on your makeup and still be in ‘cleansed’ state when you are about to perform your solat, it is permissible to carry on with ur solat. however, you must be very sure that the makeup is free of any ‘haram’ substances. that’s what been told to me by a learned lady of Islam.

to the 2nd, i fear i have not found a satisfactory answer. will help should i am informed.

    hope its of some help.

  4. thanks dear, it is indeed a lot of help.
